A nothing special shallow maple bowl, had this for several month as a rough turning in a paper bag.
DxH dimensions 222x55mm, finished with transparent acrylic stain decoration.
Good for chips or nuts or whatever, so if someone would like it to have it, he can grab it.
Cheers, Ad

Hi Ad
I haven't plucked up courage enough yet to post anything I've made, and have felt on occasions that some of the photos fell into the category of "look how clever I am".

What perhaps I haven't realised before is to look more carefully at the piece and see how various features can be handled. I like your simple lip, but what did catch my eye was the foot on which the bevel is outward and not inward as a mortice for the chuck to grip; how did you do that as that is so much more elegant.

Hi Rob, don't used a chuck, but a faceplate with a waste block glued on the maple. Turned the outside and the inside in one run, (except the flattening of the bottom) that gave me the possibility turning the foot that way. Do that often.
Thanks Rob.

I don't want to spoil Ads thread by going off the topic of his bowl but feel I must make comment about the above statement. I think its rather unfortunate you feel this way. Posting your work shouldn't require 'plucking up courage' I genuinly don't believe anyone on this corner of the forum would ever dream of belittling anybody or their work and comments made are peoples honest oppinions and the ones pointing out what doesn't look right in a turning and how it could be different are more often than not the most helpful.By posting work you get the oppinions and help of a wealth of experience. I for one bought a lathe in October 2008(18 mnths ago) not having much of a clue how to go about turning and have pretty much learnt about form, finish etc from this forum and the advice given by members looking and commenting on items posted(both by myself and others)
I also find the idea that people post things with the thought 'look how clever I am' rather strange. I think you will find people enjoy sharing their work and getting the oppinions of like minded others(woodturning types) who share a passion for making shavings. We are lucky enough to have a few really good turners on the forum who have various styles and make different objects. I don't think they need the rest of us to tell them they're good! Looking at some of the high quality work and reading the thoughts behind it can only help us all in our turnings.

Many thanks, Ad; been using a glue block rather than a screw which I don't terribly like, so that's an easy step on.

Cheers
Rob
