we could now spend hours figuring how to not do a job because of the sensitivity to the wood
Nah! Just do the job, get ill, then avoid the timber in question like the plague foerever after

Or:

Open up Front and Back Garage doors,
Retrieve everything that was not nailed down and is making it's way down the drive,
Don Face Mask,
Switch on Chip extractor/Dust pump, having first remembered to connect it to bandsaw #-o
Switch on Bandsaw,
Put on Gloves
Pick up Wood Block
Saw away knobbly bits,
Seal Wood and Stow,
Vacuum up scattered sawdust,
Put machines away.

Now wait a few hours to see if I got away with it.

Don't you just love working with wood.

why does it seem to me that extraction does not affect sensitivity?

i think most people have to wear long sleeves and every thing else
just to stop it. the nose air passages and lungs come a long way
down the list

paul

I think there's really a couple of issues - undoubtedly some of the worst problems are respiratory or related which means that improved DX is a worthwhile consideration. Where the problem is skin contact, such as my problems with yew sap, then protective clothing is the only way.
