I too just have a single garage and with thought you can get an amazing amount in. I found that using height worked well. I have a table saw (with sliding table and extension) and a router table and both of these are on castors and they live under a work bench with my cyclone and vac.

The bench has on top: grinder / whetstone sharpener, disc / belt sander, CSMS, smaller planner thicknesser, Pilar Drill and Band Saw on top) I also have another work bench that is used for all of my making up, finishing etc. I am in the process of sorting a third bench which will have an MFT style top but underneath will house a scroll saw. I will have a radial arm saw next to that. In addition I have a large tool chest, a stack of wheels and tyres, a very large rack of camping kit and shelves of wood.

I'll try and find some photos

I've got a great solution for that dust build up problem. About once every quarter I stick the old trend respirator on my bonce and fire up the outside leaf blower. Open all the garage doors and the side door and then let rip....high and low. It's a veritable blizzard for a while but it soon blows the majority out into the garden, coating my wife's car....which she always appreciates :)

I then scarper for 10 mins or so, stick the air cleaner on for an hour after and then spend 20 minutes picking up every bit of loose paper that was kicking round the workshop. Job done.

I do what R.O.Bob said. Especially after I've had a moronic episode and routered something on the bench instead of outside on the workmate..... I really must get a new vac-connection for the DW625, that beast churns out more sawdust in two minutes than a dozen guinea pigs could nest in for a year.
The other great teaparty is when I have the thicknesser inside the workshop ('cos it's bucketing outside) and the 4" extractor hose comes off....That and having to empty trhe APTC lower AND upper bag, because I was on a run and forgot to check how the chips inside were building up..... ](*,)

Long live the super cheap (£15) Boo and Poo leaf blower!

I was inspired by Peter Parfitt and built a dust collection system. It works really well. I have a £50 Karcher vac connected to a Dust Mite cyclone under the bench. This is then connected to a row of blast gates. Each of these is connected to the appropriate machine. Under the blast gates I have power supplies. The power supply is then connected to an energy saving plug (designed to switch off your DVD player etc when you turn the telly off). This works so that when you turn the power tool on it turns on the vac (mine doesn't have a power take off).

To use you simply open the blast gate for the tool you want and then power up the tool.

Simple and hassle free. I also have a 5m festool hose that I use for my domino or tracksaw, when I use these or just the hose on its own I have a light that is plugged in to the same power supply as the energy switch so I switch the light on and the vac works.

I have labelled all of my blast gates and 13amp plugs

I use the festool hose as a vac and try and clean up after every session.
