Hi Folks

Had another bash at segmented turning and quite pleased with the end result but having tried a zigzag feature ring I was a wee bit heavy with flattening the top of the ring and took off a bit more Maple than I should have, about 4mm I think, nearly touching the mahogany but lesson learned for next time :?. Vase is made of Oak remnants from a kitchen worktop, Mahogany strips and Maple and is 6" diam at the widest point and about 13" high.

Steve

Steve that looks superb especially for a second attempt
Timbers look nice together, and i like the shape.
Looking forward to your next project :D

You must have the patience of Job. Apart from a distant memory of making bowls like that in school I have never done any segmented work. If I did I doubt my second would be that good, nor the next few. The colours really work well as does the pattern. I see what Andrew means about the egyptian look. Think it is the shape though more than the pattern.

Spot on Steve, I'm very impressed. Keep up the good work.

Good one Steve, shows an advance in the mastering of the technique with a choice of wood and form that provides IMO an attractive piece without the brash 'look what I can do' statement that shouts to me from some more ornate pieces.

Thanks for the comments chaps. I do get a bit frustrated with standing at the lathe and not knowing how to hold the chisels to get the cut I want. My firm has just been granted `Investors in people` and I`m sowing the seed to get em to treat to a woodturning course so we`ll see.
Regards
Steve
