Dear Scott and Sargeant,

It's nice you are participating. But there are some forum rules about posting stuff (at the top of every forum section, so they're not hard to find), which you don't seem to have read.

For example, there is a For Sale section. And there are Premium Posts, where commercial users can pay for postings/advertisements, to help support the forum's costs.

Given you are a fairly large organisation, this doesn't seem unreasonable:

1. Post in the For Sale section (and follow its rules, regarding images etc.)
2. Given this IS a commercial post, pay for the premium option, or, better still, pay for a proper advert.

I'm sure the mods will be along in a minute or two with the official view.

Regards, etc.

Am I missing something- it is a paid for premium post isn't it?

Sorry - reading on a tablet over breakfast, so scroll past the header stuff as a matter of course.

And anyway, the HTML markup in the link to the posting page takes you to the POST's Subject line, not the head of the page, so the banner is not displayed if you come straght to it from the "unread posts" feature. Long may it stay that way though!

I still think it's a bit off though, first post'n'all.

E.

PS: using FF, without Firebug or any easy way of viewing the source. But the URL ends with "#xxxxxx", so I assume it's a link to an <a name=""> anchor on the subject line, or something similar. I've forgotten most of the HTML etc. I used to use!

i dont know whether it was there before or not- it was when i clicked on unread posts but may not have been from the start.

There are plenty of other people with links to their commercial websites in their signature which seems to be allowed. There are members who pop up promoting their own businesses. It is the exception that this is pulled up- normally new members that haven't read the rules get hung out to dry and for established members a blind eye is turned.

And in the rules that's fine - it says so.

I don't think that's fair. Scott+Sargeant are hardly in the same category as an individual kitchen fitter. I'd expect as a larger commercial company they'd discuss the thing first, then read and obey the rules. Whoever posted this obviously hasn't fully read them, as otherwise they'd have taken on board the point that they can't post images immediately.

But... It was a paid-for (premium) posting from the start. That wasn't clear to me (as I later explained), because of the way the board's CMS does it's page/link markup. The banner saying "Premier Post" isn't inside the relevant post (it's in a different <div>), and so is not seen if you jump straight to the middle of the page, to the posting itself (which you well might, and I did).
So I was wrong on that.

I know S+S have posted in the past using another identity (not anonymously, I hasten to add), and been helpful.

Perhaps I was being a bit unfair, but it's not an attack on someone new to the forum who doesn't know the rules (I wouldn't do that, anyway).

Sorry Eric, it does come across as that was what i was suggesting when I re-read my post, but it was not my intention at all.

At a guess I'd say it's probably a fuddle up with your previous ukworkshop account.
I must say I'm very tempted ! It would save hours of work compass planing mdf templates. I'm gonna go looksie to see your postage charges ;)

Put me out of my misery. How much do I need to spend for free delivery ? Thanks

Dear Eric The Viking
It is a paid for posting ...what rules have I infringed?

None, as far as I can see. I have already apologised and am happy to do so again:

I'm sorry.

I should not have posted anything about your advertisement.

. . .

As I said above, however, there is a technical issue with the way the forum works or has been set up. It's not a fault as such, just unintended consequences. It meant I misconstrued what I was reading, and I doubt I was the only one (although the only one to jump to conclusions, evidently  ). I fear it would be a bit tricky to alter, too, as it'll be buried down in the CMS code somewhere.

. . .

And the product does look like a really good idea, but not awfully cheap, though I'm most likely not your target market!

I also did see the post but not the banner initially. Just so folks know, the Scott Sargeant who started the account yesterday and subsequently posted in the paid for premium channel is the same Scosarg who was recently banned for life for spamming commercial messages in forum.

It would appear he finally got the message that if a business wishes to solicit highly targeted prospective customers the likes of which are in abundance here...then they need to fund it appropriately. A couple of days after the ban, a new account emerged in the premium channel. Excellent.

A good outcome for all then, I would say.
Just out of interest to S&S, though, could someone from them please tell me when this (apparently excellent product,) and I do mean that, I'm not being sarky, I rate CMT, I had a lot of their kit and wish I still did), was available for £159 for 2m? I'm not sure that motorways cost that much to build.
Maybe it was, and there was so little interest that the price had to be cut so dramatically, in which case sack the marketing manager and give me the job instead, or...
Was-"now-only" claims really turn me off, unless they are very obviously genuine.
I hope this one is.
Just when was this the market price?

Love it BANNED FOR LIFE unless you start a new account and pay your dues

Love it! That well-known, industrial standard size 23/32"

Gotta love the yanks.

I wonder if it's actually 18.0mm and they've conveniently added the odd 10 thou difference so as not to confuse the masses, their length conversion is the odd .25 mm out also.

We often came across this problem with Aircraft tubing and sheet materials, because of the world wide sourcing of stock the specifications just had their parameters widened to encompass the nearest equivalent, be it imperial or metric production, lead to some very interesting experiences when replacing fuselage skins and replacement fuel pipes etc. with differing wall thicknesses.
