Thanks folks!

It would apear that I am in the same boat as the rest of you (except the Kapex owners) and will just have to continue sweeping and hoovering until I can bring myself to buying a new SCMS. Hopefully Dewalt, Bosch and Makita are taking note that we are all seriously p!$$*^ off with the dust created by SCMS's and like the inovation of Festool.

To be honest it is not the dust on the floor that bothers me. It is the fine dust in the air. Yes I wear a respirator (sometimes) and do use an air cleaner. But it makes far more sense to stop this fine dust at source then to try and remove it from the entire shop.

It's not actually that hard a problem to solve.

I just built an MDF cowl around my SCMS with a sheet metal back and 'funnel' connected to my extraction system from below the cowl. Most of the dust disappears straight down the pipe; any left in the air simply swirls around within the cowl before being drawn away. Heavy particles settle on the floor of the cowl but the occasional blast of air from my airline shifts them and down they go!

I get virtually no dust escaping into the workshop.

Brad

That is how I used to have mine set up, but when I got the Felder I needed to make room so the SCMS is now on a trolly. I might have to build a cowl to go on the trolly. Thanks for reminding me!
