No idea what wood the tops of these are but my memory is of lovely hardwood desks in the science lab. Good value at £50 each, I'd think - assuming you need one.

Yes, I saw those too. Tempted, but not sure what timber they are.

Utile was used a lot for school benchtops in the 1950s. I have seen other woods used, but don't know what they were. Utile is a sort of mahogany substitute but has difficult grain to work with.

Iroko was timber of choice for chemical lab benches, bastard grain and splinters that irritate the skin along with carcinogenous dust but very tough!

And even further back Teak was the favourite-especially in chem labs, if it’s Teak buy all of them!!
