Just my first post after trying for ages to become one of you,I am about to move house and leave behind my much loved workshop of 30 years,I am moving to the Mansfield area of Nottinghamshire .I believe this is close to Steves well known workshop which I read about with great interest on this forum. One of the first things I am curios about is the whereabouts of proper timber merchants in my new county of Nottinghamshire .Any help would be gratefully received and I am looking forward to seeing plenty of posts which prior to now I have been unable to access. All the best to everyone who reads and follows this forum Kev.

Welcome Kev.
Hope the move goes well and that you will soon be able to get youir workshop up and running. Unless you are planning to take over another 'local' shop, newly built.

Hello Kevin, welcome to North Notts, I think. I assume life has gone belly up for you too, there is no other reason for moving here!
If you find any good timber merchants round here, please let me know. There is Ron Currie's just along the road. OK for simple stuff. But when I asked for MRMDF the reply was "What's that?", so that gives you the idea. Jet is OK, helpful staff but not much stock and certainly not cheap. For anything serious it's a trip into Nottingham, I'm afraid.
Get in touch when you arrive.

Thanks for the welcome guys I am moving to be near to my grandchildren who live in Mansfield Woodhouse. At the moment I will be working out of a double garage and I think it will take a lot of getting used to.My intentions are to build a new workshop and replace the machines I have had to let go ,my trusty ta315 table saw and a hefty dominion morticer. My good intentions don't always materialise so I may end up with a rusty old disston and an ancient mortice chisel don't know how to use the smilies yet ,I am a dinosaw with computers, did you see what I did? Kev.

Just click "full editor" beside the "submit" then select your smilie - make sure you get in the right place with the cursor. To answer a specific post click on "Quote" and to thank someone click on the little yellow thumbs up in the bottom right corner. It gets easier, even for technophobes. :D

Good luck with the move - and with the new workshop! Looking forward to seeing how it goes once you're all settled in.

Welcome to the forum. Hope your move goes well. It amused me somewhat that you consider a double garage as small? Hmmm! I wonder how big your old workshop must have been? I have a single garage-shop (Never been big enough even for a Mini.) I manage with difficulty to use a Sedgwick 12" MB. Not much room for anything else; with the workbench in there; and the 351 bandsaw, and the chop-saw, and the MFT3, and the.... well you get the picture.

Best of luck.

John

[Thanks for the warm welcome guys ,John ,I have been used to a 26'x12 foot workshop with an attached shed of16x7 which housed my compressor and dust extractor I also had the luxury of 10' ceilings that the garage doesn't have. I also am used to having a separate garage to house all the rest of the things for the garden and an ancient morticer which I have had to let go.So you see I have been somewhat spoiled! Never mind lots of things to do when I move, just hope the pension holds up.
