I posted this up because I was hoping for a few replies about its origins. In that the box handle on front made me think it was originally maybe military or services type tool.
Clearly its a little historical item, and as a project I think stripped back, the missing motor etc it could look quite the thing.

Hadn’t spotted the handle, yes reminds me of a military ammunition box handle. Something about the obscured label is ringing a bell, I must have had something years ago from them I think. The mc certainly looks quite old, I’m thinking 40’s or 50’s with that crown guard
