I've got a Navman N series satnav and generally it works OK providing you use a bit of common sense, especially when that silly woman classess dual carriageways as motorways (especially confusing if you happen to be at the Longbridge Island on the A46/M40 junction).
However, to get updated maps, I've got to fork out another 90 odd quid for the whole of Western Europe. Having never had a passport and the nearest I've ever been to abroad is the Isle of Wight - and being a pensioner - the chances of me taking off on a motoring holiday across Europe are somewhat slim.
It's surely a complete rip-off by Navman. It's about the same as going into W.H. Smiths for a road atlas and being told that you have to buy a road atlas for Bosnia, Italy, Turkey etc., etc., before you can have one for the U.K.
Surely a case for the Office of fair Trading to look at.

personally i don't like the nav man.
i know a few people that have nav man units and have said the same again about upgrades.
i have the tom tom one and i cant fault the unit and maps are now frequently updated from there web site with wot the call map share.
my self i would sell the nav man on ebay and bye a tom tom one or the wide screen and can be got bellow £150 now and come with the latest maps and hardware and speed cameras witch is updated monthly free of charge.
but that is my point of view the choice is yours on wot you do

Just be aware though that the cheaper TomTom UK units do not have a slot for a SD Card so you are limited to what maps you can use on them. You couldn't, for example, add the Western Europe map because it takes up more memory than is available. Single country maps might work but, again, check the size.

Other than that I agree, they are pretty nice units and easy to use.

imust admit i have not noticed that on the new units .
i bought mine march this year (tomtom one) and havent looked back since and since the new update of tomtom home it is beter now for down loading of up grades is easer.
there is a tomtom free website that has down loads for the tomtom and navman and garman.
www.tomtomfree.com check it out.
have not had a problem with it direction wise which is handy as i am having to navigate a 32foot limo round london most nights and being a suv veichle its big wide as well as long and dont like miny round abouts.
you end up doing a five point turn to get round them

Re - andrewm's remarks regarding SD slots on cheaper TomToms, my £138.00 TomTom One bought 8 months ago has a SD slot and came with European maps. I have no experience of other SatNavs but I am delighted with my TomTom - just use a bit of common sense.
