I have seen many mentions of sanding 'boards' or sand paper glued to something flat to sand your workpiece on, rubbing the work on the board rather than rubbing the work with the sandpaper. I am trying to make boxes and this technique would seem to give a better 'sharper' more accurate finish. I have a piece of granite I can use for the base but can only find the standard size sheets, obviously a larger sanding area would give more space to move the work over.
Does anyone know where larger size sheets (if there are such things) can be obtained and if so what would be the best type of paper/cloth, would it suffice to glue two sheets next to each other???

With thanks.

Thanks Ian, may seem like a simple question to most but one I couldn't think of an answer for. Doh(homer)

You should be able to glue sheets or sections of roll side by side without a problem. By angling the workpiece you will reduce the chances of it catching, but really, if you are grabbing the edges of the paper you are probably pressing too hard. I find for quick pieces a long strip of wood with paper just at one end allows you to keep the pad perpendicular to the box edge by restibg the "tail" on the other side

No problems Andy - for years I used the rolls stuck down until axminster starting supplying these.

Cheers
