Hi everyone this is my first post to the forum, so appologies if I have not posted thsi in the right area. I have been reading lots of posts and there is a wealth of information on here.

But to get to the point, I am making some childrens toys and rockers, some will be painted and some varnished, so having never made anything for children before I want to make sure I use safe paints and varnishes as I expect some children will probably put bits in their mouths etc. Dont worry no small bits, but just want to know if anyone has any suggestsion of what to use???

Hello, and welcome to the forum :D
Have you seen this thread ?
Particularly Terry Smarts comments in the second last post of the thread I linked to - the top coat has to be EN71 approved, any coats underneath don't necessarily have to be.

Sorry for the late reply, but I am planning on making a rocker and also just one of those wodden shapes through holes things. I know I can probably buy them cheaper, but I have started playing with wood and enjoying it so thought I would give it a try!!!

Will post some pics when I am done!

Hello Pinnochio

Just a thought, but some time ago (2 months) I got a pot of Crayola paint (pastel green colour) from the pound-shop in Bedford. Some of these items are in stock nationally (Pound-land) so you may have some luck. I used it for a cot made for my little girl, and it is ok. Non toxic etc etc....
