but before the system will let anything do any changes to the systen YOU have to let it..

If you set up a Microshaft PC properly it'll be the same. Mine's set up so it won't allow ANY changes to registry or programs without me knowing and approving.

The only lucky escape he had was that he wasn't running a PC.
We've had 10 or more macs over the last 20 years and never had a virus, or any problem other than advancing obsolescence.

If u had important files

would you then pay the £100 ?

Anyone with important files should also have backups! Mine are on external hard disks which are not connected to my computer unless I'm actually backing up (or restoring). One is a clone of my OS disk, so I can use it to boot from if my normal OS disk dies and be back up and working within a few minutes.

My backups are done by a programme called CCC, Carbon Copy Cloner. It isn't free, but not dear either, less than £30 if I remember correctly and as long as it's just for perc=sonal use in you own home can be put on several Macs. It is only for Macs.

What does it do? It gives you a bootable complete copy of your system from the OS upwards. If you need to do a reload then you just format your systen HDD from the external HDD that's got CCC on it and start the reload. It will completely reload your system with the last backup. You can programme it to take your backups at what ever frequency you want, BUT as has been said I then disconnect the CCC disk so it is safe from the clowns who try to destroy thngs for their kicks.

This is their site http://www.bombich.com/ and some words on it http://download.cnet.com/Carbon-Copy-Cl ... 69677.html

Nowt to do with CCC, just a happy chappy customer

The other option is to not keep any important files on the computer you have connected to the internet. All of my important stuff is on a HDD in my gaming rig. I use my laptop for the internet and there's naff all important on it. If the worst did happen to this laptop, I have a cloned HDD so I'd just swap over and wipe the infected one and re-clone.

AES? I was in NO way offended, rubbed up the wrong way or had my feathers ruffled by your posting. I read it, saw the humour and appreciated it as similar to my own, but thought my spleen venting needed a more factual explanation, hence my second post. Still, it's nice to read your sentiments; Thanks Mucker.
