Rutlands website down?

I have noticed that there are several commercial websites down at the moment. Some seem to be domain name grabs ( where someone gets the rights to the url ) and some seem to be a simple fail.

Anyone else having problems accessing the site?

Tried yesterday with same result.

In defence of Rutlands (A first) I placed an order on Saturday, on Monday they telephoned me explaining one of the items I ordered was not in stock but would I mind waiting till the end of the week for the total order to be delivered.

I still can't understand why they cant show what levels of items are instock on the website!

Part of the reason for stock control on the web, is that someone needs to maintain those details. It can be time consuming to reconcile if you use more than one method for sales.

Some people don't show stock levels for commercial reasons.

If it's integrated to the same database it shouldn't be a problem. If it's not integrated, then it would be best practice to reserve stock for the e-commerce site.

Sorry, I'll get my coat.

Cheers

Don't some of these places also hold no stock for some items? When you order it is shipped direct from the distributor. I am sure this is what happened when I ordered my Scheppach TS2000. It was delivered direct from NMA.

Apparently so. I am looking for some cartridge tapes at the moment and despite 379 hits, the first three sites where I placed an order could not supply me as they had no stock.

Apologies our site was down, it also puts our email out of action too.

We are going to take it entirely in house next year as 3rd party levels of service are seemingly unreliable. Lets hope we can do better.

Any advice here welcome by PM preferably.

Yes I agree, didn't think of that. I was recalling an experience where I bought something on-line, which couldn't then be supplied because one of the sales people had sold it on a phone deal.

If companies are serious about e-commerce they will have to invest in integration to stop this happening or people will just go elsewhere.

I can top that  Tried to buy a secondhand spindle moulder from the Felder site. They even took my deposit but it was already 'sold'
