Hmmm, I noticed in a previous thread that Alf uses these. Would you recommend them Alf?

From the picture they are not as good as the ones Alf has.
They only have a hole for the pin/bolt that holds them on the bar, the 'good' ones have an angled slot so they pull down on to the bar as they are tightened.

I think they are rubbish, tossed half a dozen sets away last month. Mine were record ones.

Could you not put the slot in the timber instead? Could be done with a simple router jig. They seem like quite a good idea to me as you could use the timber as a caul to keep a large panel flat.

Wish I'd known - I've used Record ones since the 1970s. They are the only sash cramps I have and I think they are great. I think the ones that work best are the older Record #130s with the shorter thread. I have one set with a slotted hole (Paramo) but never got on with those but I think Alf does prefer them.

Cheers

I have the short threaded Record cramp heads, amongst others and they are good because it allows you to make up a long cramp quite cheaply. Whist I disagree that they are 'rubbish' I would concede that they are awkward and bulky to use, so I only use them when all my normal steel Record sash cramps have been used - Rob

No-one spotted the obvious missing feature then? No lugs to stop the pad on the screw head twisting off the bar. Tremendously irritating IMO. Wouldn't touch 'em personally.

Cheers, Alf

Well spotted, Alf - serious design flaw.

Cheers
