I've just released some rowan (mountain ash) from a local garden. Biggest piece is about 10" diameter by 4 feet long, but the figureing doesn't look terribly interesting. Has anyone tried spalting this timber, and if so, what was the result?

hi as im new to this power lathe game i cant really comment on how rowan would turn . i have made a nice bowl a few years ago on a pole lathe . but i do know if you get a nice straight grained piece you can make a good bow or small bits can be used to make tool and knife handles
