Hi

This is my first post so "Hello".

I started making my first "proper" project last week - a router table.

It is a very similar design to colinc's but the top is slightly smaller -
it is from the book by Bill Hylton and Fred Matlack.

I may be asking you all some stupid questions as the
project progresses.

I cut my first grooves and rebates this week and I am
all excitied - my wife thinks I am going mad!

Hi

This is my first post so "Hello".

Hello :D and welcome!

I may be asking you all some stupid questions as the
project progresses.

Ask away - the only stupid question is the one that remains unasked.
We are all here to learn from each others experiences (and mistakes) as well as our own. It's a very friendly forum, hope you enjoy it.

Hi devon

The rebates are for a couple of top panels and a plywood back panel.

I have been rushing around all morning trying to purchase
some decent sash clamps. Had to settle on some £8 cheapies but
somehow also managed to buy a DW circular saw - don't tell the wife!

Looks like my next project is a table to mount the saw under.

Best of luck with the circular saw, have a look on the web at the Triton system, I've had mine nearly 4 years and returned two tablesaws in that time and gone back to the Triton. You might even pick up a table on EBay.

Sorry - it has only taken me a few months to reply but
thanks for the link to Triton.

I bought the 1/2" Triton at the weekend and although I have not used it in anger yet it seems in a different league to my B&Q special.

My router cabinet is almost finished (It would have been a whole lot
quicker just to have bought the Triton workstation many months ago!)

All I need now is the table insert.

I am thinking of a Trend or Dakota insert (I think they are very similar)
or a Triton plate from their spare parts (as another forum user has done)

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Andy

Hi All

I am in search of a router table insert for a Triton 1/2". :D

The Woodpecker TLR Phenolic Router Mounting Plate looks
nice and comes predrilled for the TRC001 US version of the Triton
so I assume it will also do for the TRA001 version I have just bought.
(It is boxed as a TRA but I guess it is really a TRB)

Has anyone any experience with using this plate :?:

Thanks

Andy

ajbell - I have being trying to buy the woodpeaker plate(phenolic) from their agent in this country for about 2 months now . Woodworkersworkshop first told me that the Triton plate was not in stock - then their was a airfreight delay and then I was promised that Roger would visit as I wanted to touch and feel the plate before purchase as I have an existing Triton router table and the Triton router. The Triton router top is not flat enough for me and I to have built my own table but I am still awaiting for Roger to confirm when I can come and see the plate. Lots of promises but no plate. Woodpeaker in the States wants $87 for shipment. The Woodpeaker distributor in Australia is on the ball and has made custom router tables using Triton and the Woodpeaker plates and the Incra fences.
If you want more details just PM

The triton router plate or plates.

I am sure that if you spoke to that nice welshman, David, at Hill industries in Wales the Triton agent they would supply theTriton router plates that drop into the workcentres and you could no doubt construct your own worktop surface to accommodate these plates. The mounting plate I dont think will give any inaccuracies if set up correctly.

The advantages of the Woodpeaker plate verses the Triton
Inserts - Triton has 2 while Woodpeaker has six of different hole sizes sizes. The insets for the triton are plastic while the Woodpeaker's are phenolic the same as the plate. Woodpeaker has a tool to remove the inserts.
The woodpeaker has leveling screws to align with table top. With Triton you have to pack the plate if not level.

Thanks BB & DW

I looked at the standard Triton plate at the weekend when I
bought the router from the Woodworking Centre and am sure I could cut my router top to fit this.

Agree leveling will have to be more basic.

I did not like the postage costs from the US for the Woodpecker,
so have sent an email to the Woodworkersworkshop for a quote.

The woodpecker looks like a very capable plate but it sounds like the delays may be too long - I want to get routing!

Maybe a trend or similar Dakota plate will give me the quickest fix.

Andy this is what I have done to modify the Triton table mounted on a WC2000 and converted to use 4" extraction

This is where my new table has stopped awaiting the new router plate. The modified Triton fence will also be used with the new table.

You could look at getting the metal part of the Triton fence as spares as I did because its a good base to build your fence from

Thanks for pics - I like your table.
But like mine it is at a standstill till I decide upon the plate.

I had planned to make my own fences as per the Hylton and Matlack
book, but will consider the Triton parts as a good starting point.
