Ok, disclaimer - I don't understand how these work. So I'm looking for some advice on what to do.

I have:

Makita DRT50ZX4 Router/Trimmer
195563 Plunge base

and I have these accessories:

I just don't know how those template guides fit together with the base, and what bushings I will need to get to use them.

I can use the router for various simple tasks, but I am keen to learn and understand how I can improve my skills with this tool.

If anyone can help, or point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.

Good idea to look for videos, but I got myself some used books off people here and on eBay which are very very helpful.

They show various techniques to achieve difficult tasks, show how to make and use jigs for all sorts of jobs, often with really detailed illustrations / pictures. They only cost a couple of quid.

Best way to learn apart from actually making things.

Specifically to your template bit, there is a recess in the central hole where guide bushes fit in. It looks like the screw in type bushes, generally made of brass. There are two parts to each busy and I think they sandwich the base plate between them. They come in a set but you can buy individual ones.

They have different offsets and diameters, depending on your template and applications. There is a fair amount to calculate as the line traced by the bit is different than the template.

I'm some cases, there are speciality bushes and bits sets that can be used to do inlay work with the same template. If done right, these look amazingly nice especially with contrasting timbers.

https://www.trend-uk.com has some usefull stuff in the Knowledge section - they also sell a book which is pretty good, covering almost everything about routing https://www.trend-uk.com/en/UK/product/BOOK_CR/2/173/complete_routing_book_new_revised_edition.html

(When you could) I invested in a 2-day Intro to Routing course at Axminster Tools (and - naturally - bought a new router and other stuff while I was there, at 10% off!) - course was excellent.

Book ordered. Thanks.
