Looking to get a router to use with a Leigh Super 18 Jig

It needs to be

1 Powerful
2 Accurate for plunge adjustment
3 not too heavy as it is to be used by hand
4 230 volt ( could be 110 volt ) as I have a transformer
5 And not cost the earth

any suggestions :p

Depends on your budget but I usually use a Dewalt 621K with my dovetail jig. About £160 ish online but have seen them cheaper on e-bay.

In an ideal world I'd have used the little Triton MOF001 Which includes all the relevant template accessories for the Leigh jig

IIRC the 621 only takes 1/4" shank bits? Just a thought

That Triton. . . looks perfect for a table router which is what I want to build tommorow!

Is it quite easy to set up for table use?

Sorry to hijack the thread, I just want to say the only router I have come across that seems to be well made are the Dewalts for hand held stuff.

You can get an 8mm collet for the 621 although this is an extra.

Yes it's quite simple to use in a table but in my opinion it's under powered. You want it's bigger brother really, which is perfect for router tables. Many members have them in their tables.

I bought my Triton MOF001 specifically for use with the Leigh because the TRA001 was simply too unwieldy on it. I now have two of them ........ :)

As wizer says, you really want the bigger one of the two. They were being sold off cheap in B&Q a year ago; doubt there'll be any left now though.

Have a look for some videos on YouTube and you'll see why Triton routers are probably the best for router table use. I think they're also designed so that dust cannot fall down and in to the router - so, it won't ever make those strange noises you hear coming from the DW625 at college!! :D

hehe i noticed when i was making those dovetail housings for that little table after a while it was sounding quite strange!

thanks for the tip, ill have a look for the bigger one!

I use two DW625's - one on my Router Table using a RouterRaizer and the other on my Woodrat fitted with their plunge bars.
Great routers had no problems with either of them.
Made several acrylic bases/jigs/templates for hand use.

I went for the Triton MOF001 specifically because it was smaller than it's big brother. My thoughts were that it could then be used hand held if necessary even though I've mounted it, semi-permanently, in my table.
The only problem I had with mounting it was locating suitable screws. Check out this thread for the solution https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30679&highlight=triton+screws
Havn't used it for anything major yet but so far very happy, and 1400W is a lot more than the 850W I had available from my Elu before.
