roundover bit

I need to get a roundover bit for my 1/4" router- for general use knocking off the sharp edges.

What radius do people use for this?

For just knocking the edges off slightly i just use a block plane or 120g sandpaper.
Never used a router to do an arris, by the time its set up at the correct depth etc, it could be done with the above methods. Unless that is you will be leaving a router set up all the time just for that purpose?

I've got a 3mm round over permanently set in one of my Bosch palm routers.
I do sometimes reach for the block plane instead though. Much more peaceful and less mess.

i was thinking of leaving it set up actually. I have a little elu and a little table for it not doing anything at present, and quite a few metres of timber to do over the next 3 or 4 projects and it would be much easier and quicker to wizz them across that.

i guess that the block plane is probably only a few minutes of work all in, so maybe that is the better option.

I find that using it in a palm router/laminate trimmer is quick and easy. I don't bother with it in a table - too much of a faff.

the table is only 12" square. I thought that it might save having to hold down the timber, although router mat would probably stop that.

I will get a 3mm cutter and give both a go.

With a palm router your other hand is free to hold the timber.

I spent the palm router money on the norris hand plane!

IN that case both hands needed. I take your point.
Now that I have all the power tools I could ever need I'm starting to get wistful about hand tools....Norris Hand Plane....purrrrrr!!
