Here's a pic of the latest load of Kapur offcuts i've just collected from one of my sisters works.

Kapur (as she understands it) is a member of the Teak family...... and YES.... we burn TEAK on our open fire :tongue9: Burns as hot (if not hotter) than coal, no spits no sparks, just oodles of heat.... for free.

as you can see in the pics, there are a few 'nuggety' bits on top which really help to start the fire off quit nicely..... and under that is layer after layer of bigger bits..... roughly 200 x 300 x 40 or 80 x 40 x anything up to 1000

I have had a go at turning with it, but it's very dusty and hard on your tools. But you can get a very nice finish with it.

Toasty toes here we come........ :ho2 :deer

All I can see is a trailer full of blanks for pens, light pulls, finials, key rings, Chas's segmented boxes & pots, possibly a few might lights, and that's just the wood I can see.

its not nice stuff to turn unfortunately pete - though i could do with a few bits as i'm currently recycling a bedside table out of a teak vennered wardrobe for my old dear and i need some teak for lipping and draw runners etc.

any chance of swapping some beer vouchers for a few bits of your stock nick ?

'course you can have some...... i've got loads (as you can see). Just let me know your address and i'll wing some on it's way.

The sister i get it from works for a company (ok.... she's actually a director there...) that makes 'park' furniture and seats, as in concrete ends with wooden slats, large flower tubs that you might see in shopping centres or malls, that kind of thing. And the wood is all the off-cuts that she's desperate to get rid of at this time of year. She thought she'd do her 'bit-for-the-community' and offer it free to local schools for their woodwork & art classes etc...... no luck..... they not only wanted free... but delivered free as well..... or... surprise surprise, they couldn't take it due to H&S risks...!!

The wood only comes in two sizes:- (approx...)

200mm x 40mm x off-cut length, which can be anything from 50mm to 800mm, but mostly around the 300mm mark.

80mm x 40mm x off-cut length, again anything from 50mm to 1000mm, but mostly around the 250 - 300mm mark.

Also be aware that the 'corners' (in section view) have a small radius on them, so it's not square wood.

I'll see if i can sort out a few close up photos and post back later tomorrow for you.

If anyone else would like some just say. I'll sort something out re parcelling it up and posting it to you, but remember there's a postal strike thingy on at the mo so it may take several weeks to reach you.... :(
