Hi All

Axminster do a self adhesive measuring scale. I want one to use to the left of a radial arm saw and ideally it needs to be reversed - ie with the zero on the right and the graduations increasing to the left (and the right way up to be able to read them!) Does anybody know of a source of such a thing?

Mike

trend also do something similar. what you actually want is a left hand and a right hand tape. also not too expensive

Yes there are a few about, it's just a matter of finding them. I have a Tajima one, plastic-coated steel, very good.

I'm actually thinking of buying a box of 80 and selling them on. They are immensely useful - I use one on my SCMS, I need to make another SCMS fence and I also want to make myself a mitring fence for the SCMS, like I made for my neighbour a while back and wrote up for GW.

I'm interested in the Kreg though - I've been quoted more than that for the Tajima even buying a case at a time.

Taj do 1m, 2m and 5m L>R and 3m R>L! I really don't understand. But it certainly is better than trying to use a R>L tape measure. You can do it, but it's a pain because of the cup.

I'm thinking of offering all the other little jiggy bits (sliding nuts, T-nuts, knobs and Bristol levers) too. I have found suppliers, the trouble is tying up hundreds of pounds in stock. The usual story.

I have found a supplier of knobs and Bristol levers - good quality too. I've discovered that the Ax ones have plastic teeth - the only steel bit is the thread itself and the spring. The teeth take the strain, and i've found some that are solid steel - only the lever itself is plastic. Comparable in price, as well.

I've also found a sliding nut substitute, not the fancy engineering of a proper sliding t-nut, but a tenth of the price and more than adequate for my needs.

I think I'm going to have to investigate ZenCart and get myself organized!

EDIT - Am i right in thinking the Kreg is Imperial only?

actually steve, i think it is american

is that imperial

nice idea, but will you not find the time taken in sourcing and stocking these things will interfere with your normal activities?

There's nothing "normal" about my life mate, I can tell you :(

The risk is holding stock. Even if you make a 50% mark up ( and then people think they are being ripped off) you have to sell 53 of the case of 80 before you make a single penny. Maybe I'll just use them up myself.

Cheers
Steve, recipient of another "Thank you.... we regret..." letter this morning.

cheer up at least you got the letter

half the time down here they don't bother to reply

you are right about the levels of stocking. actually if you don't make 3 times cost on things you don't actually make any money because of the timescale, and as for giving credit, don't get me started

check out rutlands, bought something similar for my workshop radial saw a few months ago,

go to your local diy shed, take of of the free paper 1 metre tapes, cover it with sellotape and use that with the numbers upside down, you get used to it very quickly - at least I did

Kreg do Imperial and Metric individually, so you can choose. We sell them individually as has been said before.

Good luck Steve!

Well, yes you can. But the risk is that you confuse 86 with 68, 96, 69, 89 ... and so on. You only have to make one wrong cut to make you wish you'd spent a few quid on the proper job.

Of course, this is only hearsay, I've never done anything that stupid myself.

Cheers
Steve
