I know new Record Power hardware has the advantage of a five year warranty so does this help maintain its price on the second hand market? The reason I ask is because I'm considering a bandsaw and have seen two second hand model, one approximately 94% of the cost of a brand new model and the other a whopping 99.8% of the current price!

What RP Band saw are you in the market for buying?
I have a 3 year old RP BS12 very lightly used that I'm considering selling.

I don't know if any warranty is transferrable and even if it is you have to ask yourself if the 'used up' warranty period if worth the 6% and 0.2% of the saving.
there is no guarantee that either machine has been fettled to good working order.

And short answer would be an emphatic 'No!'. I'd much rather spend the extra few quid for the peace of mind.

Why do you need to ask?

Well if I thought the most I'd lose is 6% then it might be worth my while considering either of these options. I mean, to have the use of something for a year, eighteen months at most then sell it on again for almost as much as I paid for it should I find it's not quite what I'm after could hardly be considered a loss or complete waste of money. Wouldn't want to make the same mistake I made with the table saw.

I wouldn't rely on prices seen online, you really need to know some actual sold prices across the country and in reality that is hard to find out.

Whenever I buy a tool I would factor in about a 50% when selling on, since that's the price I am usually wiling to pay for a 2nd hand tool myself. Use that as your pricing for the work you get out of it and then anything over that is a bonus.

You would not pay 90% of the new price so why do you imagine anyone else would?
As the previous poster says 50 % ish........... But you knew that

To clarify, I have seen two second hand models listed, one was only £4 less than a brand new one, the other at £20 cheaper. These are ACTUAL asking prices for second hand items and I was puzzled as to why their current owners would be asking so much for them when even the quickest of checks shows a brand new model could be had for very, very little more. I certainly wouldn't dream of paying anything remotely close to new price for a pre-owned item, unless pre-owner was, say, Steve Maskery and he'd fettled it to the nth degree of perfection and even then only if he delivered, installed, checked and stayed till I was fully trained up on the use and maintenance of it. I should also note that there are several instances of brand new listings on ebay asking considerably more than the current price quoted by the likes of Yandles, D&M and even Record Power direct.

that's the thing with good quality tools=they hold their value very well and people who are too ******** to know how to use internet are buying them as well!
I started with 2nd hand tools I bought for good prices, 2years later I made good pictures of all my tools and listed them for just stupid prices = the same money I needed to have to buy brand new upgraded versions of the powertools...
I sold about 2.3k worth of stuff in 3weeks with good pictures, and bought all new tools/machines with the money and I still had about 20pounds left in my pocket after I had finished my shopping spree for new tools,

In short = I sold all my old used powertools which I had all bought 2nd hand and bought all new way better tools with warranties for the same money and still had 20pounds left for icecream...

That's the reason they are listed there ;)

Asking is easy - look for SOLD prices on eBay. Any fool can ask any price, but it's finding a fool to pay that's the trick.
