I am going very contemporary in our master bedroom, removing existing bed heads, (they get dusty) and going to fit a 78" x 27" flush door to the bedroom wall.

I am going to have to take off 3" off the length of the door (perhaps one and a half inch each end, and put a moulding in its place)
How far into the inside of the door does the infill piece normally sit in these doors supplied?

Anywhere between 20mm to 40mm in my experience, depending on the manufacturer.
It's no ,big deal to take that piece out and refit to the finished height.

Hope that helps.

Mark.

As Chippyjoe says, between 20mm and 40mm. The tricky bit in re fitting a softwood batten has always been, for me, cleaning the glue from the inner surface of the panels. It is often machine applied to fix the cardboard 'eggboxing'.

Thanks, I will let you know how it goes.

I am thinking of fastening a batten to the wall at its bottom edge for the door to lay on, battens up sides and across top and then making a moulding to cover battens and lip over door edge.

Any ideas or improvements gladly accepted, I havent seen it done myself before but I suspect they are around.
