Remote Control

I'm looking for a remote control for my dust extractor. I've tried several cheap units (one from Maplins) but they don't last very long. There is one advertised on the American Rockler email this week which looks just the job but I suspect its not available in the UK. Any ideas?
I'd include a photo of the Rockler unit but still can't get to grips with posting photos. Must try harder!

Most of this type of kit is not going to work in the UK as we use 240V for everything in the home while in USA they have a dual system and most, including that switch is only 110V.

You need to buy a remote control that can handle the power of your dust collector, what power motor does your collector have?

There are a growing number of this type of thing about as they are seen as a way of reducing the wasted power used by leaving things on standby without having to reach behind TV sets or HiFi stacks. Most of this type of kit does not draw very much power and has a very small startup surge, while your dust collector will probably take 4 or more amps and draw 9 or 10 on startup.

I have a cheap remote set that I bought in Homebase, it is right on the edge power wise but is still working.

Hello Dave. Yes that's the one. I appreciate the that it might not work here but it looks like a beefy bit of kit compared with the units I've tried so far.
I use a Camvac G386 Twin motor and its says 2200W on the blurb sheet. Maybe this is to much for the light weight units?

Gower axminster had a remote switch that I wanted to buy but they no longer stock it. It was about £80. I posted on the forum about this and some said about mapland and BQ. I went to BQ and bought there remote kit, 3 plugs and a remote. It says on the packet that it is rated at 3000 wats, so to me that sounds like it should handle your extractor. I have one for the extractor, one for henry (hoover) and one on the compressor. Been using them for a month now and have had one problem, keeping the remote with me when moving around the workshop. Not a bad bit of kit and all for £20.00.

I got a set of those remotes from Lidl a while back. I have been using it with my RSDE2 extractor and it now works fine with my 1500w 2HP chip extractor.

You'll need to go often to Lidl or check on line, as the non food stuff varies week by week. You do get 3 3kW switches and one dimmer with the pocket sized radio controller for under 10 quid though. I have one of the remote switches wired up in parallel with the green button of the extractor starter; then it's the starter contactor that carries the motor current, not the little relay in the remote switch.

I got a set of remotes from Lidl, about 8 quid. one remote control and two switch units. Only been using one though, on the 2HP Scheppach extractor. Just keep the remote handy and it saves a lot of walking about.
and thinking about it, the batteries in the remote have lasted well over a year !
