I have a record 050 and bought some cutters off ebay. I neglected to notice they were for an 050c. They are way longer than my cutters and the notch is on the wrong side.
So whats with the 050c that its so radically different?
I'm not mad am I?* The cutters should fit bevel down shouldn't they?

How easy is it cutting and re notching blade steel?

*we'll ignore the general level of insanity that must be present in a combination plane user in the first place

Notching a HCS blade is very easy. It is safe from burning since the area of interest is well away from the business end. Just use a small 4" angle grinder, either in a stand or hand held, or a Dremel grinder. I converted a few spare #45 blades for my #044 in a few minutes.
