hi to all.i have been asked to make a four poster bed which i enjoy doing,my problem is that the lady in question wants it built in reclaimed teak she spotted one made by raft at the ideal homes exhibition and really likes the timber.alas in northern ireland there seems to be a short supply of good timber yards and so far i have struck out.so does anyone know of any suppliers of reclaimed teak before i suggest iroko.all help and comments gratefully recieved. p.s i live in county tyrone NI

I also assume that your machinery and tools are up to the job? There was a thread a while back about working teak and the general consensus was that it was heavy and hard work and excellent at blunting HSS planer knives in a couple of passes.

If you haven't used it before then I would factor in extra expense for your tools and extra time taken with continual re-sharpening of planes and chisels

Unless you have a strange delight for sharpening and resetting your planer bades, I'd keep teak a long way away from a p/t - Rob

you could also build it out of sapele or iroko and just lie to her - assuming shes not a woodworker chances are good she isnt going to know the difference anyway :D
