I love reading about all these new fangled ideas. I was taught to sharpen when still at school (1960-67) (the woodwork and metalwork teachers were all ex dockyard and the school was really like a pre-apprenticeship for the dockyard). Two oilstones, oil, no sharpening gadgets and strop on palm of hand to knock off any burrs not to polish. One day I'll see if I can try using tools sharpened in a more modern way but I've managed like this so far.
Any youngsters here able to tell me when the arguements about sharpening began, was it when the internet started?
