Hi all
Took on a job to refinish an oval veneered top coffee table. The customer wanted to remove or improve on the dents and scratches to the top. The legs wont be touched as there is no noticable damage to them.
So far I used a very old bottle of niromors to remove the lacquer, which mostly removed everything and some medium grade wire wool to remove traces left in the pors. However there is still some small dark patches, most likely old finish, and dirt which I am keen to clean out before refinshing.
I am wondering whether to use an orbital sander with say 600 grit to prep it perhaps going to higher grit?
Also what choice of finish, customer wanted a poly varnish for durability, however are there other alternative that are easy to apply with a brush or cloth and be as durable to hot cups, spillages etc?
