Hello everyone I'm an Australian vet living in London who is slightly (? very) demented when it comes to woodworking and hand tools. I would like to construct Jeff Gorman's ramped shuteing board http://www.amgron.clara.net/planingpoin ... pindex.htm . It is most probably me but I seem to be having trouble with the demensions of the two illustrations and it looks like I will need to do some scale drawings but as I am a fully paid up member of "The Lazy Sod Society" I thought I would ask here first if anyone can point in the direction of any other drawings of this shooting board that may be found on the internet. Thanks for your time in advance.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry, the anti-spam filter has caught you. but it backs off after a few posts. Hopefully, you can see the links in my post above in the quotes.

Thanks for those links Bugbear. What I meant to say was any drawings of this particular shooting board as I wanted a light version that was easily transportable. The shooting boards I already have are just too heavy and cumbersome to conveniently carry about and I thought this one would fit that bill - as well as it looks bloody nice.

gawd geoff you're aussie, adapt the b****y thing

first decide what size wood you are likely to use on it, how long in particular. then reduce the design to take account of that.

the design is made of mdf, so will be a bit heavy whatever size.
maybe look for a lighter but stable base material.

I'm intrigued; shooting boards are normally considered a workshop "fixture", and weight is not normally an issue.

Why do you want a portable one?

G'day Bugbear,
Basically I want something portable as I go the "Tollers design Centre" , Old Coulsdon, Surrey some evenings - mainly to get access to the band saw and lathes but also to pick Michael Tollers brain re design- and wanted a light shooting board to take there dedicated for use with with my No 9 Iron Miter/mitre plane. If I left a shooting board there it's "settings" may inadvertantly be changed if someone used another plane on it ergo I thought it would save time in the long run to take one with me when I needed it which would not require me to check it before use as my time there is limited. Also you've got to admit that is "a nice bit of kit". :D PS I've just noticed that that link was not to the ramped shuteing board - that is now corrected.
