have to admit to preferring that latter design in this wood over the acrylic.

the top one has very pleasing lines.

Hi George,

2 super pieces again, I really think you have cracked it with the second one :D

Personal opinion as always, but give me one of your real wood pieces to acrylic every time!!

Malc :ho2

Hi,

I like both of these very much.

I especially like how the 1st one just rests on the surface.

Natural wood is clearly less creative than your acrylic work, but I like them equally as much, with form and finish like this I think it gives real beauty to whatever material you use.

Cheers,

Lee.

I much prefer these to the acrylic ones, perhaps I am a traditionalist at heart  The wood is gorgeous and the shaes and workmansjhip use it to the best quality. Really lovely work George.

Pete

Thank you- i think i'm goind to do one of the egg shaped one's with some blackwood accents next as i think the two wooods will work well together

Lovely work, George.

What have you finished them with, to bring out the beauty of the wood?

ATB

Steve

Love both of them - if I had to chose one it would be the second.

I'm not sure I agree with everyone else so far about preferring this over the acrylic - for me they are very separate. The wood is utterly fantastic though!

One day I'll be good enough to produce this sort of thing - probably by touch as my failing eyes defy futuristic science remedies in my dotage! :)

George,

Excellent work and great proportions.

Sorry to divert the thread a little but it would help my battle to always see images on this site if you could tell me how you placed these into the OP message above.

Were they hosted on another site or what.

Reason is that yours are the latest ones which show properly and most of those in other threads flash up and then miniomise.

Thanks in advance.

Alan

Thank you for all of your comments

Beech1948/aka Alan: you are right they are hosted I use photobucket- then its upto the individual if they prefer to use clickable thumbnails or reduce teh size and use direct pictures- there's a thread around here somewhere on how to post pictures- but if you got to quote one of my posts and then try a post with thumbnails you'll see the diffrence in the image code

Steve: i used lemon oil on the egg form and i tried shellwax on the other box- i prefer the lemon oil and wil use this finsih on all of the other box's I make with this wood

Lovely work as always George :)

Hi Lee,
I'm not sure what you're trying say here - isn't the creativity just the same (or perhaps even more)?
I've never tried turning acrylic, so this I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts.

Couple of crackers George :D
Love the wood and prefer the second design of the two.
Are you doing these smaller items on the VB still or using the small lathe :?:

Hi Pete,

I meant in terms of literal creation as opposed to creativity as such; the natural wood hasn't been created by George whereas the acrylic blanks he uses have been created by a friend, so in pure terms of creativity I feel there is more of this with Georges acrylic work than with the natural wood.

Cheers,

Lee.

Thank you for all of your kind comments
I hope the mod's dont mind me digging up this thread but...
I have made a simple stand for the oval box- with the help of my new bandsaw

Like the idea George, could go into a whole dissertation as to support thickness, location, multiple supports as opposed to a single support etc. etc. non of which would be any more relevant than the example used, but worth an hours close conversation some time over a cup of capachino or something stronger.

HI George

The stand looks good.

Now what is this about a bandsaw I thought you didnt like them.
