For some reason, mostly due to my photo skills, the curl,
quilt and birdseye are showing up as blotches on the
pictures. Any advice on this? I figure it may be the poor
lighting?

LOML has made a very nice Quilt for our Son and Daughter-in-law. Our Son is due back from Iraq sometime after mid January, and this was made to his orders!
After the Min-Wax Dark Walnut dried, I remove most of it with a card scrapper. I just wanted the open grain highlighted. Wish the photo would show it better though.

Nice work, Ken!
I'm sure your son will love it!
Furniture never seems to look the same in photo's. I think wood just needs to be seen to be best appreciated. (or I'm rubbish at taking photos   )
Cheers
Philly :D

You can just see from the top picture that the figure looks good!

Great stuff.

Martyn, that grain was a real PITA to work though! Running in different dirrections gave my cabinet and card scrappers a workout for sure!

Nice solid looking design and workmanship. I had experience of this furniture type project myself earlier this year, so appreciate the craftmanship you have made.
