right here we go young jim
first of i have used a piece of beech here but ideally use somthing a bit harder or replace it every year or two
this piece is about 3 1/2"square by about 12" long

between centres

roughed into the round

still with the roughing gouge shape the handle

try it for size

decide how long you want the striking face to be and part through leaving about 1/2" to cut by hand once teh lathe has stopped.

nothing to apologise for jim- young mr chems got rained of with a cold(man flu) so i did this for you.
