Purple grains

Hi all,
First time posting and relatively new to carving wood:
There was a 20cm thick branch in my friends garden, was cut maybe 2 months back. I've started stripping the bark off it and the first few layers of grain are alternating purple and white. Wasn't sure if this could be natural pattern or maybe some sort of rot? Should I continue or chuck it?

I'm not sure what the tree is sorry.

there are some trees that have some purple and red colours in the grain- plum and damson spring to mind. it tends to fade quite quickly though.

The obvious one is lilac. That often has pink/purple striping, sometimes throughout a branch. Colour is not reliably lightfast, but it makes attractive pens and small objects

Thanks for your responses. I've tried adding a picture but the file size is too big, not sure how to compress from my phone. Will update as soon as I can. As long as theres no 'purple means human eating virus' wood. I'm hoping its lilac, beautiful colouring.
