PROXXON Bench Circular Saw KS230, I am thinking of getting one of these I will use it mainly for model making but would like to know if it would cut soft wood for making shelving for my spare room and dose the blade rise and full for diferant hights of cut.
Has any one tried one?
Thanks for any tips, Reg

Hi Reg,
I have one of these. I've actually just upgraded it to the bigger model - the FET version so I am looking to sell mine.
It is a good saw but it only cuts up to 9mm thick and it's not adjustable. It's fine for softwood but I'm not sure it will cut shelving.

The lack of cutting depth was what made me upgrade. The bigger version is more like a traditional table saw and cuts up to 22mm.

If you want any another information I'll be happy to help.

A word of warning about the FET being able to cut up to 22mm.
In principle it can cut to that depth but if you cut hardwoods be very carefully not to run it for more than 5 minutes without letting it cool off for half an hour. I ran into problems with a Proxxon FET and it had to be repaired under guarantee after less than 6 months. The importer claimed I had been running the machine for too long (20 minutes once a week). It is an accurate machine but from my experiences with it I cannot believe than Proxxon designed it expecting you to use very much on anything but balsa!

Thanks Gerard. It shouldn't be too much of a problem as I'm not using it with hardwoods in general.
I will bear that in mind though. I know with the smaller machine it struggles with the thicker pieces too so I did expect it to some extent.
