Id like to start by taking a few minutes to talk about shop safety be sure to keep the missus out the workshop for ultimate safety lol

My names justin i live in swansea and recently decided to start my own business makin furniture etc to order.

My background is last 10 yrs work as a qualified electrician but got board of moving peoples furniture about and crawling in boiling hot attics so after being made redundant last year decided to take the plunge and go for it. My experience in woodworking has mainly been in RC aircraft building detailed scale warbirds with wingspans over 8ft, only the last 6 months have i turned my hand to making furniture projects

Many an hour has been spent researching methods and techniques and to be honest im learning very fast

thought id post a few pics of projects ive completed and wil post detailed builds on futue projects coming up

Hi justin

welcome to the forum - to make your pics work you need to link to the actuasl picture , an url ending in the file extension e.g .jpg inside
tags

this is your top one (click quote to see how i did that) I dont have time to do them all, but you should be able to figure it out, or a freindly mod might fix your pictures for you

All good stuff mate. One thing I noticed though, is that on your bookshelf and shoe storage bench, you may have issues as the top expands. From a point of view of timber movement, it would have been better to have the boards joined along the length of the top. This would have reduced the amount of movement.
Just thought I'd point it out. Don't take it as a criticism. I like your work.
Good luck in the new venture.
Adam.

Welcome to the forum, Justin. :)

Some rather impressive stuff. I particularly like the bandsawn box.

You can always go back and edit one of your posts at any time - you're only missing the [/img] tags from the end of each line.

Thanks Aces, all comments greatly appreciated, i must admit the book case after install did open on the centre of the top i managed to remove it as it was screwed on from underneath clamped it up and its been ok since. i might be lucky with the shoe rack as the oak top the wood been in the room where it is now for about 6 months before the item was constructed and the room is temperature controlled on underfloor heating.

Future project i will take your advice and go length ways to reduce movement, all the items ive made so far have been from recycled wood so was a bit governed by lengths that i had at the time.

pine from offcuts of skirting board
oak from offcuts of 20mm oak flooring
Sapele from old hardwood doors found in a skip

Yeah nice stuff mate. Especially like the bandsawn box, that's my cup of tea :)
Have I seen the box @ the top made on "The Wood Whisperer"?

_Dan.

That is where i got the idea from thought id try making one for the girlfriend, scored massive points doing that. :D

Thought id do a little different and make it with 2 locks instead of the 1 mark made

Nice stuff Jack, I rather like the stool.

There are a few re-cyclers on the Forum, good to have another.

Keep it up.

Thought that was probably the case mate. All very impressive. Just looked at your other post and must admit, I'm jealous!
What size is your workshop?
It looks like a nice place to work.

Adam.

The workshop is 38ft by 15ft also got attic space above which is very handy, going to put a different door on it as its not an insulated door on it can get a bit drafty next job in the workshop is to plumb in the dust extraction its getting a pain in the neck to move the pipe from machine to machine, got 2 extractors so will plumb one for each side and work off electronic blast gates which ill make

Thought id show you some of the models i also make for my hobby of RC flying, technically its woodwork just birch ply and balsa some are kits the hurricane is hand made from a plan and a friend cut the wing from foam and i vaneered it

This is a hurricane it has a wingspan of 80" and a 4 stroke 19cc handmade engine

Some nice work there I do like the Sepele stool right up my street. As for the models, I used to do that many years ago although it was on 72mghz band. I also used to have the same Mustang but powered by a 60 engine. After displaying it at a local show it lasted about a month before radio failure destroyed it. Did enjoy building them from plans though (much cheaper) I had a friend who used to blow up photos of planes and make plans out of them. (He was a photographer) he then used to build and fly the planes and sell the plans on the American market. Good old days. :D
