hey i was wondering if anyone could please help me out? im 17 and trying to start out making skateboards, i have the press and im sorting out a mold. but i cant seem to find the correct veneer in the country? im looking for a 1/17th inch veneer to cross ply them put in the mold. all the places i find are exotic woods and i just need a plain veneer as i silk screen over. if anyone could link me to place locally that would be great thanks

I think that's around 1.5 mm's in new money. Veneers that thick are a little more difficult to source but they are available, known as constructional veneers. Do a google search for Crispin Veneers or Original Marquetry. Both sell constructional veneers at 1.5 mm and 2 mm's thick. You probably want a plain veneer - Sycamore/Maple, Cherry etc. Just as well. Constructional veneers can be pretty expensive.

I get 1.5mm ply from my local model shop but it is quite expensive because it is high quality. I think it might be quite hard to form the double curvature. If I were you I'd get some of Capital Crispin's cheapest 0.6mm veneer and have a go with that first. They aren't far from you.
