As a mate has done me a favour, I said I'd make his partner a little something out of the wood he let me have some time ago. This is a small box in air dried English Oak with through dovetails where the ends have been exposed and then rounded over:
...so it's a bit a practice piece 'cos I've not tried this sort of jointing before. The inside is perfectly suited to holding tissues:
so DW ain't the only one that can play that game
For those that need gory close up shots:
the joints are shown. The handle is a bit on the industrial side and could have been made much smaller, plus the d/t's extend by around 3mm...2mm would have looked better. The shaping on the end of the pins has been left entirely from the chisel, with just a wipe with some 220g paper to take off the sharp edges. The interior is made from English Elm with the lining scribed and mitred. Screws in the hinges ought to be brass slotted but none were available in the size so I had to make do with some small Pozis...they're OK, but not the 'real deal'. Finish is two coats of Fiddes Hardwax oil with Teak wax over the top.
