I make smaller items from hardwoods (oak, ash, cherry, beech, walnut etc.) and have got away not having a power saw at all. I have some Garlick hand saws which do the job well on the jobs I use them for, and will continue to use them for some jobs as I think they're quicker on one offs and small work.

However, some kind of power saw would speed up some jobs, and am interested in other peoples views.

I don't have big workshop space for a floor standing band saw - and to be honest it would be rather big for what I currently do.

I need to ideally cut through 75mm timber at once, but not on long lengths - say up to 45cm long.

But the most important is getting a fairly accurate width out of it (not when cutting through 75mm depths though). e.g. 8mm boards from timber, and cutting 25mm thick timber in half (when already but to over all size).

I don't want something that creates a big kerf either.

I want something table mounted though so I can accurately do things - a hand held power saw won't do it I think, but a saw bench might? For example I've seen http://www.rutlands.co.uk/machinery-&-a ... -table-saw and http://www.rutlands.co.uk/machinery-&-a ... -table-saw

Am I asking for the impossible here?

Or if I reduced my requirements to max cutting depth of 50mm, would a scroll saw be better by adding my own guard to cut against, or are they not desinged for this kind of thing?

You won't be getting any sort of accuracy with the SIP Saw ;) about as good as a clarke.

I have a clone of the fox and wouldn't buy it again, there are probably better cheap saws about.

It seems to me that a Band Saw is exactly what you need. And they don't have to have a very big footprint. Also a very thin kerf seems to be exactly what you need.
