Impressively tight joins for something that is not square, a marking up nightmare I would expect!

ach that's nothing that an angle grinder with a flap disc and some sawdust and glue can fix , forget the marking-up nightmare .. all I work with is pallet wood and this thought of mine works and when people say hey thats out a little, I respond blooming heck its pallet wood pallet wood do you hear me lol, it still looks good and that all that matters

(Ugly alert!) Had to do this on the driveway because I just have no space! I bashed together this garden plant-pot stand. It's made from the remains of the garden shed so it was never going to be pretty, but I also wasn't really expecting the design to work very well, if at all, so it's even rougher than it might have been. Turns out it's ok!

Wasn't sure I was going to post this as it's a complete fail but everyone screws up now and then, open sided 2 axis vase made from a piece of Ash that was cut in January, I didn't get it centred properly so the walls are very uneven and I managed to go through the bottom.....

That's the plan, just need to make up a jam chuck to hold the piece so I can turn the hole a bit bigger and rounder so it looks intentional


Today's offering is turned from a piece of the Oak that I collected freshly cut on Tuesday, I'm fairly happy with it, would have liked to go thinner with the top part but I just couldn't get the bloody lathe to stop rattling around even with 90% of the piece rounded off. Sanded to 180, too wet to go any higher.

Tea lights are all plastic landfill fodder nowadays. Definitely an item that has gone backwards in sustainability.

Battery operated ones don't cause fires they do look carp though.

Today I made knobs for my lathe. Both turned from bits of yew. Little handle for tailstock wheel and T handle for locking tailstock.

Woohoo today after 2 failed attempts at podlets using silver birch cut a few day ago (got them down to 1mm and then both times caught them with my knuckles, didn't hurt or leave a mark but I certainly turned the air blue) I used the remaining piece of birch I had in the chuck and turned a very very thin goblet type thing followed by an Oak podlet and a bunch of bud vases from a very old stick of birch
