Just finished this beast of a job (for me anyway) has taken best part of 4 months, damn day job. Very pleased with it. Kerf cutting the corner post and skirting was biggest challenge and the size of it was slightly tricky too, long pieces to mill down.

Today I hung a gate that I made, it's a bit different as it's split in two like a stable door. I wasn't really keen on the idea as stable doors are finicky enough at the best of times so felt one fully exposed to the weather is asking for trouble. The good thing is it's only for my ex and I did voice my concerns beforehand so doesn't really matter if it all goes a bit wrong further down the line!


Stop laths to fit yet, a bit more painting and got to put some proper screws in as the ones supplied were made of cheese but practically finished.

8 chisels in 20 minutes and everything still attached ,drivings dangerous doesn't stop people driving, most woodworking tools are dangerous to some extent

I had the same reaction, I think it's the feeling that the tool could be pulled into the jig by the rotating disk. The safer design would be that the jig holds the tool away from the grinding surface.

If you look at the set up the jig id set so it if grinding at the back of the lathe so it is an out going nip. No real risk of trapping fingers but could catch them against the disc

My thought was it could catch and throw up in your face. Given the abrasive is sand paper it stands a very good chance of digging in.

I haven't been very productive in the shed lately, too busy getting out and enjoying the sun when it happens, but I have just this week completed this Elm, Oak and Maple box, which sold before it was finished! I couldn't resist adding a bookmark from spalted Alder.

A couple of alcove units and shelves, almost didn't bother posting as the photos make them look awful, they do look much better in the flesh and I'm sure will look great once painted!

Mainly MDF and Tulipwood but used some Accoya for the front of the shelves as I happened to have some off cuts just the right size.

Look a bit better here, apart from the wonky wall!

A bit of a break from woodwork for a while. An engineer’s ballpoint pen. Copper, brass and stainless. Has a very satisfying thumb latch ‘snap’ to it.
