I can get 3x2 at 1.2m at a bargain price locally around £1.50 each, which for 2.4m is £3, but the question is would it be possible to build a workshop/shed? and if so what would be the best way to join the 1.2m lengths to make them longer, but still strong?

regards
Martyn
End to end with at least 600mm ply plates screwed across the joint for the vertical members, but longer for rafters and both sides, or for the roof go dutch barn style.

I did think along the same lines for the roof, although I've never made one myself. as long as the footprint wasn't too large that seems like you could get away with the 1.2m lengths quite effectively

For a 12 X 8 shed assuming you use full lengths from 4.8m it will cost you around £3 a stud more so works out around £100 more for a proper job. Use your 3X3s for other pars than the main studs/wall plate etc
