I have some uninteresting looking beech and decided to play around with making decorative plates using photographs. Here is my first attempt.

transfer decals? like the kids fake tattoos?
 
There is a way to put picture on to wood using acrylic varnish:

The pic needs to be of a type with rich colours if possible which can easily be transfered although I have done it with black & white. A magazine pic is ideal.

It should NOT have writing on it as it will be reversed!

You just paint on a thin layer of acrylic varnish (I used Liquitex artists matt) but I assume any will do. Stick on the picture face down and let it dry then gently wash off the paper leaving the print behind.
Give the whole item an overall coat of finish and there you have it!

I used to make jigsaws by this method which was mooted by the manufacvturer of "Liquitex"- Binney & Smith.

Try it on scrap ply or mdf and no liability accepted if it goes t*** up. :lol:
