This afternoon I attempted to plane a face and edge on a couple of pieces of reclaimed softwood using my Scheppach HMS 260. These pieces were all over the place but I appear to have got a nice flat face, but the edges are varying from 90.1 to 90.6 degrees over 1200mm.

As I will be using these pieces to make a table saw sled I want to get them pretty much bang on.

I have checked the fence in a couple of places and it is reading at 90 degrees. So I think it must be my technique. I have applied pressure downwards and towards the fence first on the infeed side until the timber is past the cutter sufficiently to allow my hand apply the same pressure on the outfeed side.

Am I using the correct technique or is there some other error I am making please?

The obvious questions to ask are:
Are your tables coplanar?
Is your fence flat?

Either of these could result in a less-than-perfect surface.

I think you'll do well do get better than 0.5 deg on a lightweight fence.

Why not bring out a long plane and set square for the edges?
