Planes....a compromise?

I have bought several 4 1/2's and 5 1/2's on Ebay for around £10 to £15. Shipping sometimes inflates this price but when you think that a good old plane will last another hundred years, it's a small investment.

Gee, the view from across the pond is one of envy, as 4 1/2s and 5 1/2s on ebay in the US go for in excess of US$75 and even then require some fettling. I also envy the UK ebay pricing of plough planes, such as Stanley 50s and Record 44s.
