One of my blades has a ding, and I think they have lost there sharpness I looked on the axminster site and a set of 2 new blades costs £19.99?! Seems a bit expensive, can someone recommend and alternative?

Chems, are you aware that these blades are "double-edged"?

If you take them out you can turn them around and use the other edge, if you haven't done so already. I didn't find the blades to be extremely sharp when I had my machine but they still gave good results. As for any dings, as mentioned before, you can easily get rid of that by offsetting one of the blades to one side of the machine more so than the other two.

Hi Chems

Before I gave my machine away I resharpened them.

They don’t last long but it worked for a bit (then I got a Jet).

Glynn.

 Double edged, no I did not know. I will have to check in the morning!

I haven't mastered the art of sharpening blades yet :(

Got myself one of these recently. Does a good job but, on my planer, I had to take the blades out to use it. Took out all the nicks and the blades are like new. You have to be careful to do the same number of strokes on each blade to maintain balance.

Ive flipped the offending blade over, very easy to do. To be honest it doesnt seem that sharp even thou its an unused blade at the moment.

Chems: When I swapped over the blades on my Jet for the Axi spares I'd bought, they where prety poorly sharpened. The originals had been much better. It's a shame, looks like Axminster blades are not finely honed.

I also found a similar thing with my AW106PT; the resharpenable blades weren't terribley sharp when I received the machine, but after sending them off to Dragon Saws they came back, well... Better than new! :) HSS knives will give a better finish than TCT but they will require sharpening or honing more often.

Chems, with you planer though, I don't think the "disposable" blades are designed to be re-sharpened, so if you do give it a go then you may find that they do not hold any new edge for very long. Whatever you may think of their edge, I can tell you from experience that they're still sharp enough for you to cut yourself if you're not careful enough when changing blades! :D

I need to find a better alternative then to spending all that money on crappy blades. So 260mm blades, other than axminster where can I buy from for this machine?

In regards putting the blade back in, basically drop it right down in the slot and re-tighten, doesnt seem like it can go wrong really?
