I'd use my Stanley 78.Nice plane for jobs like cleaning tenons, not that a no.4 couldn't do the same.
About the only time I've used it for any half sensible reason,
but it might be nice for bevels, and will be nice for guitar necks and other small work,
so I'm keeping it!

Top plane - it's probably the most multi useful plane there is - rebates, shoulders, bevels, does as a scrub, general purposes etc.
They are useful even when all the add-on bits are gone, which is why there are so many of them about well used but missing fence, depth stop etc
Was last using mine to clean and trim the tongues reclaiming some old T&G boards. A shoulder plane would do but they cost a lot more and not so versatile.
