Pioneer saw

I have a vintage hand saw marked 'Pioneer, Sheffield' (stamped on the blade) - anyone know if which maker used this, or is it the name-mark of a maker? - name is stamped, not etched, on blade - don't see it at first look through S Barley's reference book.

Picks would help. Any names on the handle medallion? Pics of that as well plus whole saw.

will do if nec but a v straightforward 26in hand saw, trad horned handle w 3 flat-top brass screws, no medallion, no etching

If it's 26", and only has 3 screws, it's a 'householder-' or 'handyman-quality' model. Could well be a 'general-retail' trademark for one of the recognised sawsmiths. In which case you would only find it in BSSM under the 'prime sawsmith's' other brand-names, not in the Index.

If it's stamped; not etched, and has 'flat-top' [I think you mean 'split-nut'] screws, it's probably pre-1900.

If you're in Sheffield, why not ask at the Hawley Collection museum on Kelham Island?
