Hi folks
I wondered if anyone had tried one of these pinless induction type moisture meters at all?. There are some on ebay for the princely sum of £25 and I wondered how deep they could measure, how accurate etc they were. I have been recommended the pin type one sold by Axminster which I`m considering. Its use would be solely for seeing if timber is ok for turning. I`m not sure how a plastic cased meter would stand up to the pins being forced into wood by heavy handed fingers (ie mine) hence the interest in the pinless type.
Cheers

Can't speak for a £25 one but my Wagner pinless is very good. I prefer it to those with pins as it lets me sweep along and across a board very quickly which is handy in a woodyard.

I would agree the wagner pinless is the job mine gets the reading from 13mm into the wood so would be no good for thin woods

Hi all
What sort of depth are you able to go to?. I have had a few splits with some turnings I`ve been doing, I must add that I am very much a novice at turning so maybe telling the dampness of wood comes with practise? .
A couple of goblets I made looked fine until a day or two later.
SWMBO said who the hell uses goblets nowadays anyway, doh! wives what do they know :p .
Cheers

hi steve

the wagner I use only goes to 13mm depth which I would say is more suited to cabinet makers

there other models that go deeper but the price goes higher

the one on ebay seems like a good price but check how deep it goes before buying
