Pictures from a newbie

It was suggested that I upload some pictures of my turnings. I have been turning for approx 12 months and am very nervous of showing outside the family. I hope they upload as they should so here goes.



A Yew bow. I turned the inside completely with the RS200KT hollowing tool



The council where cutting branches off Silver Birch trees in my road so I scrounged some and turned this the same day



I know this is thick but it is my first attempt at turning 3 woods glued together and I was not sure how it would react - and I like it.



Just a sample of my fruit collection



I know it may be strange but I just like turning small boxes.



I have a lousy memory and cannot remember the wood type.



This is the Cocabola that I wrote a post asking how to deal with end grain.

And no it's not strange, i have a 'thing' for small boxs too... :lol:

Some nice work there Maurice. RE: 'Little boxes' Check out Chris Stott. He has several videos and books out but no web site that I know of or Some nice work there. Have you seen Chris Stott's work or John Berkeley both specialise in boxes

Hi,

I really like the silver birch vase and i'm a big fan of chunky stuff so your chunky bowl is a winner for me.

I've been turning for half the time you have and if you want a novice piece of advice - read the rules then break them, respect the masters but challenge them, if it scares you then do it, if it breaks then create something with it, listen to advice but don't pander to it, if your stressed then turn something!

I tend to fling my self into it all, headfirst and give it a go, remember that opinions are like bumholes, everybodys got one!

I can't see anything wrong with those pieces Maurice
They are all nicely proportioned pieces for me,and all very well finished.
Boxes are great to do so long as you have a nice selection of seasoned timbers,or part turned boxes that are left to dry for a long time so they don't move when finished.

Some great turnings Maurice, not sure why you are nervous of showing them. You have a wide range of items there showing different types of cut so this is excellent. What did you finish them with?

Thank you all for your kind comments and advice.
I usually finish them with sealer followed by a soft wax applied with wire wool.
Now I have learnt how to upload pictures I have no excuse not to do so.
